If the government is overthrown without too much violence, it will be a real victory for democracy and I believe it will really say something for the pressure that the moral eye of the world can assert. I just hope things don’t turn out like in 1988 when 3000 people died. These people are backed into a corner. Many members of the military are from poor families. Do they ever think about who they are beating?

I would love to see democracy prevail, but a reality check ....I will bet on the monks.

Betias, your post doesn't quite make sense to me. Are you confusing things? The monks (and others) in Burma are demonstrating for democracy. They live under a military dictatorship. I don't know what the latest news is, but the last thing I heard is that a number of monks were shot dead by the military during demonstrations.

I am in support of democracy.  But there is no way they will get there way as things are now.  Your thread asked "military or the monks"

I see the military ruling in Burma for a long while.  Neither China nor Russia is budging and the US and the UN do not care. How can the monks win?

I think it will be rather hard for the monks to win.

It seems like the military almost has things under control again. Sad

Thats my point. The monks wont get Bhudda to rain hail on the military. Not by a long shot. The military will stay for awhile.

Finally somebody is doing something for the monks.  Just read on CNN

Hoping to send a message to the generals that the world is still watching the situation, rights group Amnesty International organized marches in more than two dozen Asian, European and North American cities.

Laura Bush has also stepped in now, adding her voice to critics and independent groups.

rnLong Story short. When the first explorers from the European countries first arrived at North America they thought the had actually sailed to India so thats why the First nations were called Indians. So Indians are Indians. rn

I think that what the culture warriors dont want to face is that there are no good answers, just the best of pile of bad answers.
