I clicked the wrong button and deleted this by mistake, so I'm posting it back up:

I wonder what the University of Cumbria can offer that its predecessors couldn’t. After all, the three main elements that make it up – the Institute of Arts in Carlisle, St. Martin’s College, and the Cumbrian campus of UCL – were all already able to award degrees. Perhaps people will be attracted by the proposition of studying at a ‘University’ rather than a college. Perhaps, with things centralized, they will be better able to promote themselves. To me there is a challenge there. Cumbria seems to be a place that people leave, especially young talent. I wonder if UC can keep some of our young talent and foster it and if some of that young talent will stay in Cumbria. And I wonder if UC will be successful in attracting more mature students back into education. I hope so.
